Launch Him Well

A program to help fathers, coaches, and mentors prepare young men to become who they were meant to be.

Many fathers feel a quiet worry...

Have I given my son the tools to thrive in this world? To be capable? To build a good life? Carry the Fire was created to help fathers, mentors, and coaches step intentionally into that role.  Not with lectures, but with shared conversations and a clear path of formation. Because the most important lessons in life are rarely taught in a classroom. They are passed down.

Carry the Fire — At a Glance

Carry the Fire is a path to launch young men into manhood and help them cultivate the strength, habits, and clarity needed to thrive in the modern world.

Deepen the Relationship Before the Launch

Shared challenge. Meaningful conversations. A path walked together. Because the most important lessons are not taught.

Not Character Education.  Character Formation.

Not slogans. Not pump-up videos. Not vague virtue posters.  It is formation rooted in study, practice, mentorship, challenge, and embodied ideals. Carry the fire is a formation program designed to help fathers, coaches, and mentors guide young men in developing the strength, discipline, and clarity needed to build a meaningful life in the modern world. Through short lessons, discussions, physical challenges, and a culminating rite of passage, the program provides the kind of life preparation and character formation young men need—but rarely receive. The goal is not just to teach, but to shape character and create meaningful shared experiences. Participants engage with timeless principles of character, self-mastery, and purposeful living, while building habits and experiences that carry into real life.

Questions You May Be Asking

What ages is this designed for? Best suited for young men roughly 15-24, though lessons will be meaningful well beyond that range. Do I need to be an expert mentor to lead this? No. It was designed for ordinary men willing to lead. How much time does it require? Most move through one or two lessons per week, but pacing is flexible.  What if the rite of passage feels intimidating? It is designed to fit your context—from simple and symbolic to highly challenging. Can this be done with teams or small groups? Yes. In fact, that’s how the program began.

What people are saying

See what others have experienced.

I had the honor of being a part of the first Carry the Fire group led by Shane while he was my coach in high school. I can confidently say that being in this group changed the trajectory of my life. Every young man nowadays gets the sense that there is something missing from their life but it feels impossible to know what it is and how to move forward in finding it. But simply being selected to be in the group made me feel seen and worked as an igniter for me to peruse a meaningful and fulfilled life. Beyond that, having Shane lead me and the group throughout the rest of our high school days kept us accountable when things got hard. In the end though, simply having someone take the time to invest in my life and give me structure changed the way I live my life as a whole and even now years later, when things get hard I have the lessons he taught me that I can and do fall back on. So I highly recommend doing the same and taking the time and effort to invest in the futures of the young men in your life. Coach Trotter is a thoughtful leader whose work reflects deep integrity, critical insight and a genuine commitment to strengthening the next generation. Shane fosters resilience, character and purpose in young people. He communicates with clarity, passion and humility and brings his students together around shared values. He inspires them to raise the standards in their own homes, schools and communities. Shane instills in his students a commitment to personal development and a habit of lifelong learning. I have seen this firsthand as youth that he helped shape have now carried those principles into adulthood.

Member of Shane's Original Carry the Fire Group

Shane started out as my high school strength and conditioning coach, but became so much more through the creation of the first Carry the Fire group. I was selected to be a part of this group of young men with similar ideals and a hunger for more in life. As high school athletes, we were all gifted with natural discipline and ambition. Even with these traits, growing up in the modern world has its challenges. There are distractions everywhere, and being a young adult is harder than ever. Shane played a pivotal role in preparing our group for these challenges. He was able to open our eyes to modern issues and frame them in a way that encouraged us to reflect and analyze how they affected our lives. The lessons learned from these discussions have shaped my view of the world and have served me well in my early adulthood. Shane invested so much time and effort into our lives and every second was time well spent. I keep up with all of the guys from our original group, and I can honestly say that every single one of us became better men with promising futures because of the program. My biggest takeaways from Carry the Fire are simple but powerful: do hard things because they are hard, surround yourself with likeminded people, and avoid modern vices that hold you back. The brotherhood created by this program is unlike any other. I highly recommend investing in this program and in the young men around you. The impact Shane had on our group is something that I will carry with me for life.

Know Thyself

The injunction to “Know thyself” was carved at the entrance to Apollo’s temple at Delphi. At its most fundamental level, that is what the Carry the Fire Foundations program wants to help young men do—to know themselves, really, so they can then fully step into the person they were meant to be.
